Insight to Industrial Facilities

Draft of subject contents 

Visits to at least one hydro power plant, thermal power plant and shipyard. Description of operation of each industrial facility with emphasis on the issue of optimizing performance and the possibilities of system performance enhancement. Presentation of previous successful engineering solutions acquired with the use of advanced computing methods, at each of the described industrial facility.  

Developing of general and specific competences (knowledge and skills) 

Knowledge: recognizing different technical systems in industrial facilities; understanding the issue of optimal performance of complex industrial systems. Skills: identifying and selecting appropriate methods for solving engineering problems in a complex industrial system. 

Forms of tuition performing and manner of knowledge checking

Tuition performing: lectures, visits to industrial facilities, independent work, and consultations. Manner of knowledge checking: class participation, seminar paper. 

List of literature needed for studies and sitting for an examination 

Industrial facility documentation.  

Science and engineering projects linked to the specific industrial facility. 

List of literature that is recommended as supplemental 

ECTS credits attributed to subject and corresponding explanation 

5 ECTS. Lecture attendance 15%, exercise attendance 45%, writing seminar paper 40%. Project is being provided with value of 6 ECTS credits. 

Manner of sitting for an examination 

Writing a seminar paper. 

Manner of quality inspection and efficiency of subject performing 

Control of the regularity of class performing and attendance. Assessment of active student participation. Quality control of seminar papers.
