Computer applications in engineering

Draft of subject contents 

Basic concepts of computer technology (types of computers, computer architecture, computer infrastructure, operating systems). Using a computer and file management (Microsoft Windows). Word processing (Microsoft Word). Spreadsheet calculations (Microsoft Excel). Engineering software tools for general use (Mathcad, Matlab).

Developing of general and specific competences (knowledge and skills) 

Acquiring knowledge skills necessary for active participation in an IT supported engineering environment. It primarily relates to the handling of personal computer operating system (Microsoft Windows) office use (Microsoft Office) and general-purpose engineering software (Mathcad, Matlab).

Forms of tuition performing and manner of knowledge checking 

Education is formed as lectures (theoretical and practical)  and tutorials in computer cabinet. The exam is carried out on the computer.

List of literature that is recommended as supplemental 

ECTS credits attributed to subject and corresponding explanation 

4 ECTS. Participation in lectures and tutorials 37.5%, preparation for computer assisted exam 62.5%. 

Manner of sitting for an examination 

Practical work on the computer with teacher assistance. 

Manner of quality inspection and efficiency of subject performing 

Quality Assurance comprehends quality observation of lectures and tutorials and knowledge evaluation of students and student’s questionnaire. 

Prerequisites for subject enrolling

No prerequisites.
